Penny Simkin, PT

Penny Simkin is a physical therapist who has specialized in childbirth education since 1968. She estimates she has prepared over 14,000 women, couples, and siblings for childbirth, and is a co-founder of DONA International. Today her practice consists of childbirth education, birth counseling, and writing, combined with a busy schedule of conferences and workshops. Penny and her husband, Peter, have four grown children, eight grandchildren, three grandchildren-in-law, and a pug named Lola.

Dr. April Bolding, PT, CCE, CD

April Bolding is a physical therapist who specializes in an integrative and compassionate approach to Women's Health and Orthopedic physical therapy. She holds a doctorate in physical therapy, is a Maya abdominal therapy practitioner, childbirth educator, birth doula, author and speaker.  She is the author of an upcoming book on the sacred connection between parent and children and co-author of Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn.  She is also the creator of  the Phoenix Heart ™ Pelvic Health Program, a holistic healing kit that helps people prepare for and heal from childbirth and restore optimal pelvic floor function.

Lorelei Walker
After five years of graduate education, Lorelei earned an MPH and PhD in Public Health Genetics from the University of Washington (UW).  During her graduate work, she demonstrated a commitment to connecting the emerging science on epigenetics to the social and environmental determinants of health through "real world" action in communities. She continues to participate on the NHGRI’s Partnership for Community Outreach and Engagement working group, is a community leader in the Sound Alliance, a highly diverse nonprofit working to promote equity and healthy communities in the Puget Sound region, and is on the Board of Directors for the Tenant's Union of Washington State. She is the Program Manager for the Collaborative on Health and the Environment, a small non-profit working to enhance scientific discourse through the dissemination of research, prevention, and intervention strategies. Lorelei has a young daughter and wants her to grow up healthy and strong in a flourishing environment.

Dr. Catherine Darley
Dr. Catherine Darley specializes in the natural treatment of sleep disorders in people of all ages.  She's especially interested in helping shift workers and those who have to be alert and perform well at all times of the day and night.  A graduate of Bastyr University, she founded The Institute of Naturopathic Sleep Medicine in Seattle.  You can learn more at

Maura Shirey is the Owner & Creator of Bodies for Birth where she specializes in prenatal and postpartum fitness.  Maura is on a mission to change the conversation about exercise during pregnancy and if you’ve met her, then you know, she’s creating and leading a birth and fitness revolution! Maura uses current research and evidence-based practice to bust myths and to provide education.  In doing so, women who work with her are full of confidence and strength in both mind and body as they prepare for and recover from one of life’s greatest feats!

Maura’s wellness background includes work as a Registered Nurse, Certified Personal Trainer and Personal Chef as well as a Health Coach and Health Screener for corporate wellness companies.   As a woman and mother, Maura seeks to share her personal experiences with other women, to break down competitive barriers and to celebrate as women surprise themselves with the inner strength they already possess.

Barrie Rein Thunemann MA, ICCE, CD, Certified Birthing From Within Mentor
Barrie became certified as a PALS doula in 2007. In 2008 she attended her first Introductory workshop in Birthing From Within and the way in which she looked at birth and parenthood changed forever. She undertook a 7 year jouney into the Birthing From Within Mentoring program and became certiifed as a Birhting From Within Mentor in 2015. Through Birthing From Within Barrie was introduced to Birth Story Medicine and has been studying it since 2013. She is currently a part of a small cohort of women from all over the world studying with Pam England in an advanced birth story medicine year long seminar. She also teaches Birthing from Within childbirth preparation classes in a variety of puget sound area locations and offers private birth story listening sessions. She is a wife and mother of two boys, ages 7 and 11 and in her free time enjoys making art, knitting, reading, storytelling, dancing and exploring any path that leads to greater wholeness.

​Camie Jae Goldhammer, MSW, LICSW, IBCLC, (Sisseton-Wahpeton)
Camie Jae Goldhammer is a Clinical Social Worker and Lactation Consultant. Camie received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington in 2006, specializing in Maternal Mood Disorders and the affects of complex/Intergenerational trauma on attachment, bonding and the parenting practices of Native families. She has served as a therapist with the Snoqualmie Tribe's Behavioral Health Program, been a WIC/Maternity Support Services social worker and clinical supervisor with the Ina Maka home visiting program which serves pregnant and parenting women and their families in Washington's urban-Indian community.
Camie is the founder and chair of the Native American Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington. She is also a founding mother and President Elect of the newly formed National Association of Professional and Peer Lactation Supporters of Color. In 2013 she became Washington state's first Native American IBCLC. Camie is a consultant with CHAMPS and is also a part of the Center for Social Inclusion’s First Food Racial Equity Cohort. Camie is also a Campaign Director with MomsRising working on bringing Paid Family Leave to Washington State.
